Sokodé, Togo, January 26th-28th, 2015: Fondation Franz Weber, manager of Fazao-Malfakassa National Park, organizes a training workshop for the forest rangers of the Park, with the aim to strengthen their fight against poaching and illegal trafficking in fauna and flora species. In this regard, the foundation can count on the expertise and support of the NGO ANCE Togo.
Since Monday morning, the "Nouvel Hôtel Central” in Sokodé hosts the capacity building workshop organized for the forest rangers, aiming to intensify their fight against poaching and illegal trafficking in fauna and flora species. The rangers of Fondation Franz Weber will be trained during three days, a training provided by the NGO ANCE Togo. The workshop also strives to build a collaboration between various stakeholders in the field of environmental and natural resources management, as well as with the Chief Cantons, magistrates, Development Village Communities and Brigade Commanders.
The President of the Delegation of Sokodé City, representing the Prefect of Tchaoudjo, had the honour of inaugurating the training and noted the priceless value of wildlife and natural resources for Togo. For Fabrice EBEH, General Director of the NGO Alliance Nationale des Consommateurs et de l’Environnement, a stronger fight against poaching and illegal exploitation of species is direly needed.
Vera Weber, President of Fondation Franz Weber, considers that continuing education and regular capacity building are essential in order to ensure an effective protection of fauna and flora in protected areas. Fondation Franz Weber’s aim and mission is to develop, enhance and maintain the faunistic, cultural and touristic potential of the Park, while striving to integrate local populations and promote their sustainable development. The foundation is pleased with the Park’s strong biological diversity, as well as its beautiful landscapes.
