The destruction of the countryside, poisons, climate change, man-made obstacles, noise - migratory birds have a lot to contend with today. Nevertheless, the hunting of migratory birds is still widespread in Southern Europe.
The Col de l'Escrinet, in the South of France, is passed by hundreds of thousands of migratory birds every year. For a long time, hunting them was not only permitted but practised intensively.
Fondation Franz Weber wanted to put an end to this atrocity, and acquired the land concerned. Peace has finally been brought back to the land where the hunters used to shoot anything that was flying. Poachers have been replaced by ornithologists and other nature lovers and protectors of the environment. Today, migratory birds are admired and counted, not killed.
