Observations on the Access Road to Bonrook
Anyone traveling to Bonrook drives about five kilometers from the Stuart Highway to the Homestead – the first four kilometers on asphalt, the rest on a simple dirt road. When I ask, “What did you see on the way?” most people answer, “Nothing.” But those who keep their eyes open discover an astonishing variety of wildlife – some only present during certain seasons.

Basel Zoo euthanises elephant Heri: enough is enough!
Bern, 13 June 2025 – on June 11, 2025, Basel Zoo announced the death of elephant Heri (estimated to be 49 years old), described as a ‘necessary euthanasia’ following a gradual deterioration in her health. But behind the sanitised tone of this statement lies a dark truth, which Fondation Franz Weber (FFW) strongly denounces: Heri died after carrying a dead foetus in her womb for a year and a half.

Birth of a baby elephant: Zurich Zoo is playing with fire
Zurich Zoo has just announced the birth of a baby elephant on the Easter week-wend, with moving images and videos. But behind this “good news” lies a grim reality: the calf's chances of survival are slim. In captivity, elephants are unable to satisfy their basic needs and are exposed to numerous physical and psychological stresses, as well as various diseases, including deadly viruses such as EEHV herpes. Condemning a baby elephant to a life of boredom and suffering, in the name of so-called “species conservation”, is a dangerous illusion. It's time zoos put an end to elephant breeding programs.
