    Ban on Seal Products in Switzerland

    As of 1 April 2017, an import ban on seal products was finally introduced in Switzerland. Years of persistence by Fondation Franz Weber is paying off.

    As early as the late 1970s, Franz Weber, together with Brigitte Bardot, drew attention to the atrocious slaughter of white-coated baby seals in Canada (see May 1976 below). The tireless work of Fondation Franz Weber over decades was also crucial for the 2009 EU import ban on seal products. The import ban in Switzerland was long overdue – on 1 April 2017 it finally became reality.
