Trees and tree-lined avenues are our green lungs, but they do far more than simply supply us with oxygen. Rows of trees and single-standing trees provide eco-niches for countless creatures; they protect against heat and wind; they temper the climate; they provide an aesthetic feature that is beyond compare. All the more so the older and stronger they are.
All too often, however, the value of our trees is criminally neglected. Entire avenues are cleared away as a result of improper planning or misguided understanding; trees are maimed or felled as if they were nothing but disposable items. Fondation Franz Weber is not prepared to stand by and do nothing in the face of this insidious ecological and aesthetic catastrophe in Switzerland.
Thank you very much for helping us make our visions come true!Donate
In recent times, Fondation Franz Weber (FFW) in Switzerland has campaigned repeatedly on the frontline for the protection of individual trees or entire avenues. And with great success.
In winter 2015, for example, a magnificent avenue of poplars was to be chopped down in a highly dubious lightning-strike operation in Tägermoos (TG), which is very close to Constance and Kreuzlingen. When the emergency call reached Foundation Franz Weber, the chainsaws were already screeching. Yet thanks to our immediate intervention, the part of the avenue still standing – around two thirds of the trees – could be saved. We demanded that the felled trees had to be replaced, and the avenue is now even being extended.
What is notable here is that FFW acts with very little funding in this field, connecting players and sharing the necessary expertise for saving trees in close collaboration with renowned Swiss tree care specialist Fabian Dietrich within a very short time.
