Fondation Franz Weber

Fondation Franz Weber at the CITES CoP18 from 17th to 28th of August in Geneva

Tomorrow, the 18th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Interna-tional Trade in Endangered Wild Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP18) will begin in Geneva. African elephants are at the heart of the debate. For Fon-dation Franz Weber (FFW), it is clear that elephants, like all other endangered animals and plants, must without exception be fully protected.

CITES has been regulating international trade in endangered wild flora and fauna for 43 years. However, since the advent of the Convention, our world has considerably changed. The recent IPBES report makes it clear: today, one million species are threatened with extinction worldwide.

As a CITES observer since 1989, Fondation Franz Weber will, over the next two weeks, be working with its team of experts for the conservation of endangered species, specifically two species that are vulnerable to international trade: African Elephants and coral reef fishes.
